LEXUS ANNOUNCES LOCAL LINEUP FOR THE ALL-NEW RX

Lexus Australia will launch the highly anticipated all-new RX large SUV into the Australian market with core hybrid and petrol models and its powerful performance hybrid flagship.

The RX has been completely modernised in its fifth generation. Lexus engineers crafted the new vehicle architecture to build on the RX virtues of refined luxury and comfort, while adding more safety, technology and sporting flair to the way the RX looks, feels and drives.

The result is an all-new luxury SUV with broader appeal than ever before that is set to continue the RX success story when local sales commence in early 2023.

When the all-new RX lands in Australia, it will lead off with the RX 350h 2WD and RX 350h AWD HEVs, offering a harmonious balance between low fuel consumption and exhilarating electrified driving.

They will be joined by the sporty turbocharged RX 350 AWD petrol, with the all-new RX 500h F Sport Performance topping the range and redefining the Lexus Driving Signature with its dynamic new level of electrified performance.

Lexus Australia Chief Executive John Pappas said the launch of an all-new RX is exciting for Australia given its popularity and importance to this market.

"RX is synonymous with Lexus in Australia. It has helped forge the Lexus brand here, pioneering the luxury SUV concept and winning customers with its refined luxury and thoughtful design.

"The all-new RX builds on the model's long-standing qualities but now encapsulates it in a thoroughly modern and more sporting package that still delivers high on comfort and elegance.

"The Lexus human-centred Tazuna concept builds the interior around the occupants with considered design touches to enhance the experience for driver and passengers alike. The RX is not only a great car to drive, but a great car to ride in."

For the first time in its history, the all-new RX will be offered in Australia with two distinctive hybrid (HEV) powertrain solutions to meet the diverse needs of customers as part of the Lexus Electrified vision.

In fact, Lexus Australia launched the world's first hybrid luxury SUV, the RX 400h, in 2006. Since then, almost 10,000 (9,794) RX Hybrids have been sold locally.

The new RX 350h features the latest-generation 2.5-litre inline-four hybrid powertrain, tuned specifically for the new model and delivering 184kW1 of power. With the RX 350h, Lexus offers customers the choice between the 2WD's lighter and more agile driving experience or the AWD's superior grip and sure-footed handling in tricky and low-traction conditions.

Customers wanting traditional petrol power will enjoy the RX 350 with its 2.4-litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine delivering torque-rich dynamic driving and a punchy 205kW1 of power with AWD configuration.

But the flagship of the range is the RX 500h F Sport Performance HEV - F Sport taken to the next level. It is the first Lexus to feature a turbocharged 2.4-litre inline-four hybrid system to fully electrify the senses, combining for a total system output of 273kW1.

In addition to its technologically advanced new hybrid powertrain, the RX 500h F Sport Performance features a high-output eAxle rear motor and sophisticated DIRECT4 all-wheel drive force system. The 500h F Sport Performance's superior handling, stability and driving enjoyment is bolstered by six-piston front brakes, adaptive variable suspension, dynamic rear steering and 21-inch aluminium wheels, all combining to add an impressive new dynamic layer to the Lexus Driving Signature.

Like the recently introduced new NX and LX, the RX also pursues a unique identity with optimised proportions portraying a dynamic driving experience. While retaining its overall length of 4,890mm2, the all-new RX features a more striking exterior with the trademark Lexus spindle grille design now expressed in a more three-dimensional form, evolving into a new expression called the spindle body.

The new vehicle architecture has allowed for a roomier interior delivering greater comfort and convenience. Wheelbase is increased by 60mm (to 2,850mm) and the distance between the front and rear hip point has increased by 12mm to liberate more internal space. An extra 50mm is added to the rear luggage compartment.2

Overall width is increased by 25mm (to 1,920mm), front track widened by 15mm, rear track by 45mm and overall height reduced by 10mm (1,695mm). These footprint changes, together with a 15mm reduction in centre of gravity and overall weight reduction by 90kg, contribute to a safer and more faithful driving performance.2

The all-new RX will continue the Lexus tradition of offering class-leading equipment levels and the latest in active and passive safety technologies as standard when deliveries begin in early 2023.

The RX created the luxury SUV concept when shown to the world in 1998. Since then, over 3.5 million examples have been sold, with the RX remaining the best-selling Lexus globally today.

The RX arrived in Australia in 2003, going on to become the mainstay of the Lexus brand locally with 41,686 sales to the end of July 2022, accounting for one-in-four sales since the brand's launch.

Final specification and pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
